KT Mendes, Student Intern
I approach therapy with a deep belief that the way we engage with one another is profoundly important, regardless of age. Drawing on principles from play therapy, I strive to impart five core messages to all my clients: I’m here, I hear you, I understand, I care, and I delight in you. I know that clients, of all ages, engage in therapy at their own pace, and I aim to primarily create space and provide the tools to engage in the work of healing. I utilize humanistic, strengths-based, parts work, and DBT modalities.
With a specialization in infant and childhood mental health, I utilize a range of modalities to support our youngest and most cherished clients. For children from birth to three years old, I work closely with the child-caregiver relationship to nurture secure attachment, safety, and joy. For children aged three to twelve, I employ play and art therapy to provide a space where they can safely explore, express their emotions, grow, and succeed. I also engage closely with parents and caregivers to support the entire family system.
At every developmental stage, I recognize that the relationship between a child and their caregiver(s) is fundamental. My work is dedicated to helping youth found safety and security in themselves, and to help caregivers connect more deeply with their children, fostering mutual delight and profound love.
I specialize in & utilize a mix of approaches including Infant & Early Childhood Mental Health, Child-Centered Play Therapy, Mind-Body Bridging, Motivational Interviewing, art therapy, and Internal Family Systems.
When I’m not working with clients, you can find me with my partner & three dogs, reading a book, engaging in some sort of art project, and spending time with my community.
