Dellany Higby, Student Intern

Dellany (she/her) is a student in the Master of Social Work Mental Health program at the University of Utah. She graduated from Utah State University with a bachelor’s in psychology.

Her passion for studying psychology expands to include areas in social work, neuroscience, sociology, and the psychology of gender − specifically focused on feminist, queer, and intersectional theories. Social justice for, and acceptance of, the LGBTQ+ community prompts immediate and diligent advocacy. She knows the LGBTQ+ community enriches so much of society.

She was born and raised LDS in Utah, understanding the unique culture here. Being marginalized from the dominant culture can cause mental health, relational, and even physical ailments. As a mom of two, she also recognizes how support, acceptance, and love can carry a person through life’s journeys and struggles. She is excited to work at Flourish Therapy where that support is offered to so many in this community.

Along with her enthusiasm to learn, her life has been full of diverse and challenging experiences. Through these life events, she has developed a curiosity for all the ways we get to be human and is able to set judgements aside, deeply empathizing with others. Collaborative and empowering relationships are key to her work. Her development in therapeutic skills focuses on attachment theory, acceptance and commitment, CBT/DBT, internal family systems, and takes an integrative, ever-evolving exploration of evidence-based practices.

In her personal life, she spends most of her time with her husband and kids, is a part-time makeup artist, enjoys camping/traveling, goes all out for Halloween, and seeks laughter in as many moments as possible.
