Jen Lindstrand, Student Intern
Hi, my name is Jen, and I’m happy you’re here.
My approach to therapy is rooted in the wellness model of psychotherapy. I am client centered, collaborative, trauma-informed, and influenced by liberation psychology and positive psychology. As a therapist, I am most interested in trauma related work. I have experience with PTSD and C-PTSD, abusive environments, boundaries and healthy relationships, Dissociative Identity Disorder, various personality disorders, and working with gender expansive teens and adults..
Therapy with me is integrative in nature, which means I seek out the modalities that fit your needs best. I often combine narrative therapy, psychodynamic theory, and feminist theories with somatic work and mindfulness where appropriate. My goal is to create a compassionate, welcoming, and safe space where you feel that you can be your most authentic self in session. I believe that you are the expert on your lived experience, and I will always honor that in session.
I am originally from Madison, Wisconsin and have lived on both coasts and abroad. I grew up non-religious and now would consider myself to be spiritual, valuing nature and the interconnectedness of all things. I strongly value having as open of a mind as possible, remaining curious about what each experience has to offer. Over the past twenty years, my professional experience has included working as a crisis counselor and in various crisis environments, working on public policy and global health initiatives domestically and abroad, teaching English to non-native English speakers, and working in refugee camps with asylum seekers. I am passionate about work that helps people at both the individual and collective level.
As a person who stutters (PWS), I have had the honor of working as a mentor and coach for others who stutter for twenty years. I know what it feels like to be misunderstood by society or to feel as though your authentic self is locked inside of you, and I can relate to clients who may feel this way. I am always happy to work with people who stutter, as this is often something that heavily impacts us on a psychological and emotional level. I also have experience with adoption, trauma and identity conflicts related to adoption, substance use, disordered eating, and emotionally, physically, and psychologically abusive environments.
Educationally, I hold a masters in public policy and administration with a focus in global health from Northwestern University, a post bachelor's degree in marketing from UCLA, and a bachelor of science in psychology, social science, and business administration from UW-Stevens Point. I graduate from New York University in 2025 with a masters degree in Counseling for Mental Health and Wellness, and plan to stay at Flourish Therapy Inc. as an associate therapist.
In my spare time, you can usually find me listening to music, doing yoga in a sunny spot, running on a new trail, or learning a new skill. I enjoy writing, photography, running, snowboarding, yoga, rock climbing, and connecting with my community. Whether we meet in session, or we never have the opportunity to meet at all, I want you to know that you matter. Your lived experience matters and you deserve to live a full life where you feel that you can be your most authentic self. Thank you for stopping by and be well.
