CJ Michalec, Student Intern

Hello! I’m CJ (they/them) and I’m an intern here at Flourish as I study at the University of Utah for my Master of Social Work. As a queer and trans/non-binary-identifying therapist, my approach is founded on my own lived and professional experiences within the LGBTQIA+ community: I’m here to offer a safe and affirming space for healing and growth. When people are stuck, I know that they hold the power to their own healing and that their own emotions guide their identities. I believe in the power of human connection, and I know that a trusting relationship with me is essential to your therapeutic process. Get to know me a little bit more below!

I’m proudly from Michigan and I moved to Salt Lake City in 2021 with my partner. I love exploring and recreating outdoors - I see our beautiful, natural world through an indigenized lens and believe we are all a part of it! I love music and going to live shows, being artistic and creative, and cooking up a good meal for friends. The highlight of my experience working within the LGBTQIA+ community was helping create Michigan’s first ever queer summer camp for youth. It combined all of my passions, and it was so much fun for everyone involved!

The foundations of my work as a therapist are with teens and young adults struggling with anxiety, depression, suicidal ideation, self harm, substance use, trauma, neuro-diversity, and/or their gender identity. I utilize an assortment of interventions depending on the client - therapy is not a one size fits all kind of deal! I understand that each client begins or continues therapy in their own unique place in life. It can be hard to open up or cope with the challenges that life throws our way. My intention is to meet you where you are, and I invite you to take the brave step toward learning more about yourself and improving your life!
