Ruth Hyland, Student Intern

Ruth (she/her) was raised in a small town north of Seattle. She went to Ricks College for her

associate in science, and BYU to complete her Bachelor of Science in Biology: Secondary

Education.

She taught for 1 year at an alternative school in Heber, UT. She has been married for 28 years and spent the last 25 years raising 4 children. Two children are married, and one has a grandchild. With the last child close to leaving the nest, she has felt directed to the counseling field to use her experiences and abilities to help others on their journey. She worked for a year at a girls’ residential treatment facility before returning to school. She is in her first year of her master’s program in clinical mental health counseling at Adams State University’s online program.

She has two cats and enjoys reading, gardening, knitting, puzzles, reformer Pilates and mindfulness as part of her self-care. She has personal experience with non-suicidal self-harm, depression/anxiety, ADHD and Tourette’s. She looks forward to working with the LGBTQ2+ community, because she is drawn to learn, love and be a support to this community through curiosity, acceptance, and non-judgement.
